My name is Alexander McLaurin, and I am the Founder and Program Director of Total90 Futbol Academy. This statement reflects my core beliefs and serves as the foundation of my coaching philosophy. I have a deep passion for sports, encompassing the entire club and its teams, but I have developed a particular interest in Individual Player Development in recent years. Additionally, I hold the position of Senior Technical Director at West Side Alliance Soccer Clubs, one of the largest youth soccer clubs in the Midwest region of the United States. My love for the sport has provided me with over 30 years of experience, including nearly 20 years of coaching. Throughout my coaching journey, I have worked with youth players across various levels and ages, as well as with professional athletes. I have had the honor of traveling the world, collaborating with diverse clubs, teams, and even a Federation, applying a wide range of my skills. My primary responsibilities have typically involved direct coaching, scouting, and developing and implementing training curriculum. I have also relished additional roles such as leading coaching education, managing staff, and creating and overseeing soccer development projects and budgets.


While I consider it a privilege to have my work intertwined with my passion, I also cherish my time outside the beautiful game. I am fortunate to have a wonderful family, including my three sons: Kai (6), Ezra (2), and Phoenix (under 1), along with my amazing wife, Candace McLaurin. In addition to enjoying quality time with them and the rest of my family, I have a passion for music, cooking, and I am always eager to travel and discover new cultures.

Total90 Futbol Academy is a Player-Centered Development Academy that provides premier training, player development, educational program, as well as collegiate and professional pathways for talented youth, collegiate, and PRO-AM Players.

  • Consult clubs, federations, teams, and players on implementation of training programs as well as collegiate/professional process

OPSM PRO is a sports agency based in Ottawa who specialize in player representation and career guidance, offering players a unique balance from player pathway on the field to their brand development off the field.

Roles | Responsibilities

  • Help organize and run professional combine/trial events in North America
  • Coach and instruct players at combine/trial events to help guide them along their player pathway
  • Involved in the Collegiate Recruitment Platform guiding players in the process of finding a collegiate program
  • Help grow the Agency through any personal partnership relationships with clubs, teams or players

ASOCIACIÓN PARAGUAYA DE FÚTBOL

CONSULTANT | TEAM & PLAYER DEVELOPMENT

2019 - 2022

In 2019 I signed a partnership agreement with the APF to come on as a consultant for the Women's Development Program and work with the Women's National Teams Senior - U17, staff and players. 

Roles | Responsibilities

  • Game Model/Curriculum design and implementation for the Senior to U17 National Teams
  • Purchased and implemented the use of Catapult GPS monitors
  • Aid in preparing the senior national team for the 2019 Pan-American Games in Lima, Peru
  • Consultant on staff that helped lead team to winning their group and finishing 4th at the 2019 Pan-American Games with notable draw vs Columbia and historic win vs Mexico 
  • Organized & Instructed coaching course for 36 coaches from the various Paraguayan Professional Teams
  • Project Director in bringing the U20 National Team to the U.S.A. for the first time in federation history to take part in an International Tour in which the team played matches against 3 Division I college programs (2021)

SIDE FC 92

Program Director | Head Coach

2020 - 2022

SIDE FC 92 is a PRO-AM team that competes in the United Premier Soccer League. I started the program in 2020 with support from the youth club West Side Alliance Soccer Club, as part of the Pathway to Pro Program.

Roles | Responsibilities

  • Help in founding the Club, naming, logo design, program design
  • Head coach in charge of the team 2020 & 2021 season, including implementing Game Model, leading training sessions, team selection, and overall management of the team
  • Team had a 85% win Ratio in the 27 games over two seasons with 2.68 pts/game
  • Team led the UPSL nation wide in goals for scoring 81 goals in the 2020 season and 72 goals in the 2021 season
  • North Division 1 champions in 2020
  • North Premier Division 1 champions in 2021 and making it into the round of 16 of the National Championship

PASSION PROJECTS | VOLUNTEER WORK

For me, football has always been a game that can bring so many people of different backgrounds and cultures together. It is a game of the people, that can be played anywhere in so many different ways. It has always been important to me and part of my personal mission to be able to give back. Whether that be in the form of time or helping out in a financial way. The joy that people can experience from a simple interaction with them is priceless.

The picture to the left shows one of those moments, when we decided to open our facilities and bring in Afghan refugee families for a day of fun, family, food, and football. I will never forget the smiles and laughs on the faces of everyone as for 2 hours they thought about nothing else other than being together with their loved ones in a safe and enjoyable environment.

Through the resources available with my academy, whether it be people or man power, I regularly try to get myself and the academy players involved in volunteer work at food banks, doing free soccer clinics for kids/families in the community through organizations like the Common Good, or working with groups like Top Soccer who do training programs for people with disabilities.

BE YOUR BEST

This is a statement I have always tried my best to live by. To everyday bring the best version of myself to any situation, even if it is a difficult day. My values are important to me, and they are what I do my best at bringing to any organization. Anyone I interact with can always count on me to be as professional as possible, responsible for my actions, and taking accountability for my roles and responsibilities. Discipline in life is very important to me, because I strongly believe it is what continues to move you forward towards being your best version, even on days you do not feel motivated to do much. Through my many travels, experiencing different cultures and working in various roles I have learned it is vital to be adaptable to different customs and ways of doing things. One must be open to change, have compassion and empathy for co-workers, and have a togetherness on a mission in order to make progress. Lastly, character and honesty are important to any relationship and building something together. When people align together on a vision and mission, the impossible becomes possible.
